I agree with this statement because it aligns heavily with the queer term, "mother", it's not like saying Cale is a mother-figure to me, but more aligns with him being a bad bitch/serving cunt on a daily however he is a good PARENTAL FIGURE... Totally get where you're coming from - “mother” as a queer term is powerful and affirming in the right context. But my issue is more with how fandom often defaults to calling any nurturing male character “mom,” even when it’s not meant in a queer-coded or camp way. It usually happens because people subconsciously don’t see men as valid caregivers unless they’re feminized.
That kind of framing ends up hurting both sides - it erases men's ability to be emotionally present as fathers, and it reinforces the idea that emotional labor and care are automatically women's roles. So it’s not that being associated with “moms” is bad - moms are awesome. It’s just frustrating when “dad” doesn’t feel like an option.
