I read the novel a while back and I feel the characters were described much crueler in the novel , specially the mages(of course , the father and cousin too). It really emphasized the stressful and dangerous environment a child without the protection of a guardian had been thrown into. The overall mood of the story was quite depressing too but maybe because its a manhwa with such a bright colour palette , it doesn't really express the the original story well. The way the novel described Jayna's thoughts and situation was much more real and dark.
