Same in here. I didnt even know cousins marrying considered incest until later lol. I saw my schoolmates more than my cousins. I never considered them as family either. Its just, they are like some distant relatives i rarely see.

i think one of the main reasons its really taboo now, is because of birth defects and how close they are on the family tree

Turkey, muslim. I mean, i dont think my parents would make us marry cousins or i never saw them that way either. But i also dont see them as family either. Our culture really cares for family, relatives but idk most of them seems like a stranger to me. I think it makes sense for people to worry about birth defects and we shouldnt normalize marriage between siblings/cousins. Like, siblings i can kinda understand because its not normal but cousins? Lol. I mean, birth defects chance are low and in this story, they both are men so i couldnt care less about them being relatives lol.
