I kinda prefer it this way, he was a highschooler but already a legal adult, so it didnt feel icky. the main issue between them wasnt the societal position, but the MLs desperation to appear mature in MCs eyes.
well even that wasn't really a major focus in the story. was kinda brushed off midway
