I love the kid but this side story writing just sucks. the brother is a genuinely dislikeable, supercilious, homophobic bustard that treats people like crap and I'm sick of the mindset that you need to be around family that's harmful to you, it's always at the cost of your mental wellbeing which they don't even consider, for the sake of shared blood. and i know the resolution to this is going to be some version of that which is just ugh. tiring, especially as an asian. family aren't obligations to please and you shouldn't carry the emotional labour all the time. plus the trope of having an outsider fix the broken bonds between family is tired and it just feels like they're being a bad partner and prioritising their partner's family instead of their partner. like, we're queer we shouldn't have to do this towards bustards that hate us for just being. whatever.
AND BROTHER IS DUMB AS ROCKS Even though he's trying to get tenure. like, be so fucking serious. if you see a lost child, bring them to a police station and not kidnap them to your home,, your ignorance is more coming off as bona fide malice now even though the story tries to posit this as some sort of dramatic comedy.
