most likely they just think she's referring to herself in third person. there is a whole persona movement where young ladies in Japan refer to themselves in third person cause it supposedly makes them "cuter" so that is probably the impression she is giving.
we know the situation is different and that's not her intention but the other characters don't know the truth.
