Now I understand why BL creators often stick to typical, cliche or “safe” character designs and seem afraid to explore much when it comes to diverse characteristics for characters. It seems when artists try something TOO different they get canceled, or their book interfered with in some way. I know of at least three stories that were suddenly cancelled and all three of them coincidentally had MCs that had physical traits rarely seen in BL love interests- in this story MC guy has very sharp/unusual facial features, in another story, one of the love interests was distinctly bowlegged, and in another, a seme walked with a medical aid. It really sucks, but it’s becoming clear which books are more likely to face cancellation, and I really hate that it seems rampant with artists who try to go outside the box. No wonder it’s so hard to get fresh stories in the BL sphere. It it because of sales? The editors don’t like it? Not as marketable? It’s a shame
