They do fall in love it's just they break up because Richard blew things up but after begging and making it up for awhile do they truly bond and reconnect- it just takes awhile for that trust to be built back

Richard’s fr wish was to get treated more roughly, so Courtney planned an actual bdsm play. The thing is, she had already fallen in love with Richard and “hurting” him made her uncomfortable, but she still went through for his sake.
Here they actually established a safe word (he obviously doesn’t plan on using it but whatever ig) she starts locking in, but it’s a blessing that he’s blindfolded cause it gonna make it harder for her to do so if he wasn’t. Surprise, surprise! The blindfold comes off because it’s part of the play. Courtney can’t go through with it while making him look like that (all wrecked and stuff), sooo she says she can’t do it (she doesn’t specify) and runs off into the sunset.
She avoids him for a couple of days, and when she’s ready to talk, Richard’s nowhere to be found. Then some strange events start happening pointing to Richard cheating (he actually wasn’t). All that nonsense happens whilst Courtney finds out she’s expecting, so y’all can imagine the stress + work + not eating.
She’s exhausted at that point and goes to the emperor requesting a divorce.
The reason Richard did all that nonsense was because he thought that if he made Courtney mad she would storm into his office and then they would be able to talk about what happened before (the play).
Some of the things he did, if not all:
Made it seem like he was having a secret rendezvous with someone at night.
She went to his bedroom to talk to him, there were guards stationed outside it and they wouldn’t let her enter and when she asked why they said they couldn’t tell.
He wrote one of those lewd letters, had his assistant deliver it to her, and made it seem like he was talking about experiencing new things with a “new master” outside the palace.
Maybe some things are wrong because I read those chapters long ago, but I did my best

I accidentally got spoiled (not really since this is a novel) but wdym they aren’t truly inlove, they break up for a bit, get back together and they just have kids but they don’t end up truly in love?!!
