Can someone explain to me da heck is happening? Why did the storytelling took a 180°??

ML lost his memories going back 6 months or 9 months I think because the doctors was holding all the guides hostage because he was interested in the relationship rate the MC and ML had going on and basically thought would it be the same if ML lost all his memories of his guide, it was basically a bet they were forced to take. (Been a whip since I read this so all my memories might be right)
