Let me explain...

Mameiha July 18, 2017 3:11 pm

I didn't like Lune as the seme, not because of his current body or face type, but because the spirit in him that drove the plot of the story was a woman. Don't get me wrong, as a woman, I have penis envy fantasies and would likely be a switch with a preference for the top position if I were to suddenly become a man. However, considering that their past life relationship was hetero and occurred in an ancient age, I can't suspend my disbelief enough to buy that Lune would be the tachi. I guess it was already stretched to the limits with the magic and being a witch.

The reason why Lune is the seme is simple - even as a woman, Lune was the pursuer. It was her/his determination to find her/his lover, to possess them completely and never let them go - as a chick, that's crazy stalker. In the yaoiverse, that's seme 101.

@Mameiha.. you missed a pretty important point here..

    this is "NAONO BOHRA's work"
    *winks*

so, if you're familiar with the her works.. you'll know RIGHT AWAY from the beginning that the possibility of Kyo-chan being the seme is close to nil..ze~ro..lol

You make an excellent point. I hadn't considered that.

LOL No, I didn't miss that this was Naono-sensei's work, which, by the way, I adore. It was simply that it felt wrong in this work's case, to me anyway. Normally, the stereotype break fits the personalities or the character's situation. Here, for me, it felt "off". Though, I will admit, knowing sensei's proclivity for stereotype swapping, I knew right away who was in which position. Now, if only we could see a little seke action from sensei, I could de a happy fujoshi. LOL

You think a woman would always want to be the uke even though she has the option of using her dick now. Girl you have penis envy fantasies and yet you don't understand Lune.

You, like all the other replies, seem to think it is a lack of understanding on my part, when that distinction lies with you. I understand the reasoning behind the position switch. What I said was that, unlike Naono-sensei's other works, the position switch didn't FEEL right for me this time. I specifically said that I didn't "Like it", not that I didn't understand it. So, regarding my comment, which is it for you? Did you not understand it or did you not like it? If it is the former, I hope this clarifies things. If it is the latter, nothing I say will change what you like or don't like. So, I will not waste my, or your, time in the attempt.

To everyone who has replied thus far: First, let me thank you, sincerely, for your responses. However, I seem to have created some confusion with my comment. I apologize, I thought I had been clear. Apparently that is not the case. I fully comprehend the reasons and character traits behind this mangaka's decision to "switch positions" for this character. What I am trying to say in my OC is that, unlike the position switches in all of the mangaka's other works, this particular switch did not feel right to me, personally. I said I didn't "like" it, not that I didn't understand it. I appreciate your time and effort to attempt to change my opinion, but I'm afraid it still stands. Would your favorite color be changed by explaining how the colors of the rainbow are created through refraction? No. You like your favorite color because you like it and no amount of discussion will change that. It's a preference, not an opinion. In this story's case, I did not prefer the position switch as I have in all of this mangaka's other works. To be frank, I am a bit perturbed by people attempting to invalidate my preference with their own assumption that I don't understand the story, writer or plot. This, to me, is akin to telling a gay man that they are really straight, but they just haven't met the "right girl" yet. It's an attempt to invalidate another's feelings with your own assumptions of the situation.

Now, if you would like to discuss why you DID like the position switch in this story, that would be a fun and interesting conversation to have. I enjoy hearing about the likes and dislikes of others, but don't worry, I won't tell you that what you like or don't like is wrong, as so many here have done to me. I may not agree with you, but that doesn't make your feelings any less valid. We can disagree and both still be right.

The reasoning behind the position switch? The reasoning is that she dreamt of being a seme, something she even said during the final sex scene. Isn't that reason enough? And no, I do not understand your reasoning. Especially since you say you have penis envy and would like to top sometimes. It's like someone they're ok with interracial marriages but hey the moment they see an interracial marriage in a manga they say they dislike it.

So explain your reasoning. You think women should be submissive even when they're reborn as men?

Your attempt to shame me as a racist won't work, but nice try. I know enough about human psychology to know that there are deep rooted reasons behind our likes and dislikes, but I doubt that you do. So, you will only attempt to further belittle me and my reasons because we disagree. Do you realize that you are bullying me in to agreeing with you? It won't work and I doubt you even realize you're doing it. You liked the pairing, I'm happy that you did. However, I'm not going to lay bare my personal life simply to satisfy your curiosity and ego. You have already approached me as a hostile combatant. Therefore, my reasons don't actually matter to you. You only want more fodder for your insults. I refuse to acquiesce to that request when it will only cause me more trouble. We're through with this conversation. I will have no further contact with you regarding this matter. You have not earned it.

"Your attempt to shame me as a racist" and here again you completely misunderstand me that analogy was used to explain why I find it puzzling when people say they don't mind something progressive but then when they actually see it in a medium of art, they hate it. It was an analogy, but it went over your head. Cool.

See? You bully people so often, you don't even realize it when you do it anymore. Even this reply, you blame me for not understanding your poor use of an analogy, yet you can explain said analogy easily. In other words, the analogy was only used as a veiled attempt to shame, not get your point across. It's too bad that you have such a low opinion of yourself that you have to insult others to feel good about yourself or make your opinions valid. However, belittling me will only make you feel better for an instant, then you will be forced to do it again to me or someone else. It's a terrible personality trait you may want to shed if you ever wish to have people close to you.

What went over your head was the fact that Mameiha wasn't asking for a reason since that doesn't change one's tastes. It could change one's opinion if the person is open for it. But that's not the case here. Taste is irrational.
I hate spinach. I just hate it. My sister loves it. When she cooks and I complain she tries to explain all the benefits of the spinach. Does it make it more appealing to me? Hell, no. That shit is still fucking disgusting.
I must admit that I didn't find myself quite sure about Lune being a seme. At first I thought that maybe the Princess was one that enjoyed pegging? Seemed unlikely. But then I thought that maybe it was the author's decision to point out differences between Lune, the Princess and Lune, the seme. To point out that although Lune is a reincarnation, he still is he's very own person. Someone who tops their partner and who will not stand there and watch him die, but do something instead.
It also helped the fact that it was Naono Bohra, who doesn't make one of the guys in the couple overly girly. If it would have been any other author, I doubt they would have pulled it through.
