I agree... “ugly” is not in the room with us. She's covered in bruises that's why she is “ugly”.
Ohh I like that Idea. She was bruised up that every time she goes out with her pretty sister, they might've compared them and exaggerated maybe they thought she was being abused cause she's ugly. Maybe she's the one taking the hit after their mother left. She might be pretty but not as pretty as the other sister like Kate and Edwina Sharma from the the bridgerton books
Tbh, I don't know if she's really ugly as described, I think she's average looking since no one was born ugly to begin with... The previous chapters showing her 'ugly' face looks like there's bruising and swelling in her eye and cheeks... Since her mom left her after giving birth, maybe she's abused since then? So her face always have bruises and swelling? And now she thinks she's ugly because of how people say she is... Her 'ugliness' faded when she's working right? Maybe it's really just a bruise? It's so confusinggggggggg
