You know how to fix this issue? Give mc an entire arc about how he will never believe in anyones love, despite the truths etc and make ml desperate for what he did. Because thats makes more sense for his character, kinda would be the justice, better ending.
I totally agreed with this take the first time I read it. But after going through it a couple more times over the years, you really pick up on the subtle character details at different intervals. I feel like as a psychological drama it's actually written with a lot more nuance than any of us expected from a bl.
I just left a long comment about what I'm seeing this time around, but basically there is a lot of insight in the small things. Like Jinsol's mother blaming herself for his "condition" and he grew up internalizing that guilt she projected into her writing. He used writing to communicate with her and she still didn't get it. And his dad only called him a liar all the time, despite Jinsol learning ways to tell how he feels around the Lie. He had to learn the harsh way of surviving as a Lie in a world of Truths. Speak with questions, requests, fragmented sentences, don't say anything if needed, never let anyone know. He wants to be a good guy but is trapped behind steel bars he had no choice in making. At this point in his life, he is alone with his abusive father and with a loose commitment to continuing to live, he discovers a Dare and knows that gives him the leverage he needs to get a different Tongue without everything being revealed. You can tell by the second rooftop visit that he feels conflicted about it and wants desperately to connect with someone, to be SEEN and HEARD for the first time, but he's already committed to going through with it. He has to. It may not be a lot, but these little glimpses help his character become more human. Let's also not forget that he's just a teenage boy.
I also reread it more than once but like i said in my comment; my problem was less sbout character writing, more about romance part. Mls story might be sad but mcs story was not only more sad, his situation was far more desperate than ml. In the end, ml didnt deserve mc. Like, did you forget mcs trauma? He has noone but ml had at least his sister and Mother. And he really couldve solved the issue better but no, he had to use innocent person for it. The person who was desperate for love, the person who begged him to not leave him. In the end, ml did nothing but hurt mc. Meanwhile, mc solved mls problem by sacrificing his avantage. Its more surprising that mc didnt kill himself after the betrayal. Also, if you reread, maybe you should count how many times ml said 'i love you' as lie to mc, the kid who was starved for love. The more i think about, the more i found this annoying. Mc deserves better than ml.
That is a valid take, but I also think that when he is telling Saegye how to lie without hurting himself, it gives his own arc away! He's spent years figuring out how to do it, which ends up backfiring on him. You lie to Yourself and eventually that becomes the truth, is what he advises. Soooo, for example, telling himself one thing is a lie while believing the opposite is the truth:
Saying "I like you" thinking *I don't like you*
Saying "I like you" thinking *I don't like you*
He lies to himself that he doesn't like Saegye which makes him able to still say it. Because he's believing his own lie.
Yeah, i understand but it still hurts when you consider how much mc was alone. I wish we saw more action from mls side. Mc really needed that kind of affection and effort from others. If that rich lady didnt support mc, it would be over for him.
Ok first of all, i really love the series and characters snd their relationship us interesting but i have one big thing that it really bothers me....
I know author said "sangyeo forgave him. He made fun of him a few months about it" etc etc....Like? I also wanted Jinsol to be forgiven EVENTUALLY but it happenned too quick too easiely. ML literally didnt have to do anything....Mc pretty much solved everyones problem, at the end by confessing. He not only solved that, he saved ML from death.
And yeah Jinsols life was hard too, i get it. But he had his sister and mother, but sangyeo didnt have anyone. And the fact that for a longggg time, Jinsols "i love you" was a lie, the way he ended up using him "for no reason" at the end. Like, they are not even each others first love. So it didnt even feel like a big love story. They just wanted to "like" each other and we didnt get a little "chasing" from jinsol. Not even fcking a little. I wish he said he didnt forgive him and stayed friends with him for a while.
Yes i get it "forgiveness is a lot healthy". I get it, author what you were saying in the chapter when Han talked about forgiveness but idk this kinda hurts me for some reason. Sangyeo pretty much didnt really own anyone to anything but he ended up solved it all. Yes, it was for "love" but ugh....idk. I wish Jinsol was hurted more from what he did to Sangyeo. I get that his family was going through "something" but i wish we couldve seen he cared more, hurted more because betraying someone who had noone is....horrible.
Or or we couldve get see to how their relationship develop after what mc did. Anyway, i really wanted to share this. Thats it.
