the manhwa is a crappy adaptation of the novel. it doesnt romanticize the abuse. do u think a novel that emphasizes the abuse he undergoes, so appalling and depraved that it cannot in any capacity be romanticized or justified, will sweep everything under the rug? no, it's the opposite, mc can never erase the trauma, no matter how he suppresses it, even when he fell in love with a normal person. it's been a downward spiral since he was targeted. but mc is resilient, and over the years, would get his revenge, and eventually he will get a peaceful life with someone who really loves him; altho it's not really a happy ending imo, it makes sense why mc would return to him.
Sooo... you're saying that in the novel those rapes are correctly addressed as something disgusting? In the series it's the opposite this is why I find it even more repulsive like... how can authors romanticize/sexualize rape! It's just insane! So this is why I'm wondering if the novel is well executed, portraying rape as something terrible as it should be and later successful revenge? Because based on the series it looks like author was seriously on some hard drugs while writing this shit
it's more like the author doesnt soften/gloss over trauma from the rape. it's a very hard read bc there's almost a gratuitous amount of rape mc experiences, and it's in graphic detail, but the author is not afraid to portray how horrific the rape and the circumstances in which it occurred, and how it fucked up his life, so in that sense, it's not romanticized. the mc do get revenge on different individuals over the span of the novel... but the rape also keeps occurring periodically, until near the end. there's no straightfoward "suffering -> revenge" progression, so even tho some moments are cathartic, it generally just keeps getting worse for mc. tbh i think the author is messed up for putting mc in so many horrible situations, but it's a well-written novel even tho the subject matter is very dark
So at least in the novel rapes are showed as something disgusting, because unfortunately it doesn't resonate the same in the series as I can see, and what is wrong, because of course, there is nothing sexual/romantic in rape. But if rapes will continue, and as I heard next arc will be even worse, I think it's the time to drop this series, as I cannot handle even more sexualized rape here, what probably will be the case looking at the series till now and if rape really continues till the end of novels, as you said, I think the author's crossed the line, and showed no respect to his own character, Raymond, which is simply sad, I don't know if this is due to author's preference or kink, but that's too much, and rape is not the only way to express darkness and angst either way, thanks for letting me know, at least in the novel it's darker, but definitely in the series rape is incorrectly addressed
yeah if ur really disgusted during the school arc definitelyyy stop reading there. in terms of the graphic details of the rape itself, ill say it comprises 20-25% of the entire story, maybe less. and given the adaptation, i doubt it will portray the vibes of the next arc accurately. the majority of the time is mc just suffering from trauma, his life over the course of 10-15 years, i dont think he gets raped during the timeskips, it's just when he gets involved with certain characters, trying to get revenge and all. but yeah the amount of onscreen rape he experiences feels unnecessary imo.
Don't get me wrong, I like to read angst and toxic stories, to read redemption/revange etc, but it needs to be addressed accurately. Unfortunately, lately to portrait darkness and angst authors use mainly SA (what is terrible, as there is no many other scenarios to use), and there is that disgusting trend in BL to sexualize/romantize SA, which is simply wrong, as per definition rape is just a non-con abuse... and authors add this in such way to add smut...where...rape is not damn smut and we don't have many well written redemption toxic stories unfortunately..
And yeah, looking at that you confirmed it's much darker in the, and how adaptation looks like so far, I don't think it will be again correctly addressed unfortunately... like you said the visuality of these rapes is truly unnecessary! Rape is for angst, not for smut, but this is the problem with many series now, and readers who see those series as sexual, and that's what drives this crazy machine, now all is needed is SA and hot characters...

This is honestly ass. I mean I like the art (The storyline is literally just mc getting raped over and over again so at least to me there is no storyline) but after finding out mc is literally going to end up with Jeremy/black hair it's honestly tiring especially since this is such a common thing in manhwa. The mc catches the attention of ml, ml then start mentally and physically abusing mc then mc plans revenge and/or plans to run away but he/she never does then mc and ml end up together because ml "changed and became a better person". Honestly the only reason why I am reading this is because I hope the author changes their mind and have mc actually get his revenge and live a happy life with a person who actually loves him
