I think it’s because he found out she had a weak body/mind and didn’t want to risk the burden of pregnancy without knowing she was stable. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but that’s what I remember
It’s not a spoiler. Just like the above commenter said, Carcel began to take contraceptives because he was afraid to get Ines pregnant while her health is unstable. It all began after Ines almost died from seeing the green pendant in the jewelry store. Since Carcel didn’t know why she almost died and Raul and Ines didn’t tell him the truth, he was looking for a doctor to diagnose the cause so that Ines can be properly treated. Carcel is deeply afraid that Ines will die giving birth to their child.
I put spoiler in case people were reading the comments and came upon mine. I’m just wondering since it seems like Carcel has been taking contraceptives since BEFORE he was bedding her.
Iirc, he started taking it when Ines first collapsed?? It’s been a while since I last read the novel so I’m not rlly sure
He started only after she almost died. It shook him a lot.
Can someone spoil for me why Carcel didn’t want children/why he took the contraceptive herbs?
