She is actually the most pitiful character in this story, even more so than the FL. The ML married her under false pretenses and never saw her "as a woman." While she knew to some extent that he didn’t love her the way she wanted, she never expected their marriage to be virtually sexless.
Because the ML viewed intimacy with her as bordering on incest, he didn’t mind her sleeping with other men if it meant he didn't have to perform. It is implied they had sex only a few times, and only because the ML felt obligated, not because he actually wanted to. This is why the child she is carrying is definitely not her husband’s. Future chapters reveal the ML had a younger sister who died in early childhood. He met his future wife shortly after that loss when they were both children. She essentially became a stand-in for his sister; against his parents’ wishes, he married her more out of a desire to "protect" her than to truly make her his wife.
It doesn't take long for the wife to realise their marriage isn’t normal and that his feelings are strictly platonic. In my opinion, this is partly what drives her to become an adulterous wife. She does whatever she can to provoke a reaction, even telling him outright that she is sleeping with other men, but he remains indifferent, merely telling her "to look after herself." She suffers multiple miscarriages from these affairs, most of which are with "sponsored" students or aspiring talents. The father of her current baby appears to be a younger, aspiring musician.
What is worse is that her own mother weaponizes her fertility issues to scheme this "surrogate" debacle , because her mother knew that her son (the wife's brother) was in love with the FL and planned to marry her. So, she pre-emptively had the FL have the ML's baby to essentially her shatter own son's heart, because she hates the FL and her family.
When the ML visits this man to have him sign a paternity waiver, the musician calls the wife to tell her, "Your brother visited me." When she asks why he thinks they are related, he explains that the ML was so indifferent; he expected a husband to beat him for the affair, not offer a payoff. This is a total gut-punch to her because it confirms her husband feels zero jealousy.
Eventually, she gets sick of being treated like a sister. After seeing the ML display the kind of desire, possessiveness, and jealousy for the FL that he will never show her, she presents him with divorce papers and moves to the US. She is a truly pitiful character who was essentially scammed into a fruitless, empty marriage by a man looking to replace his dead sister. I think the author portrays the wife in the worst possible light just so we can overlook the fact that the FL is sleeping with a married man and agreed to carry his child for money. I don't hate the FL and have sympathy for her, but I feel for the wife as well.
