Both, the author wrote two alternative endings.
It’s not both. She ends up with the childhood friend in the main story. There’s only one alternative ending.
The author wrote an alternate ending for the other guy in the side story, and even then- they’re not officially together cause their relationship is all based on “tension” and push and pull.
