I do think it's possible for a biological female raised as a male to yearn for stereotypically "femenine" things just like it happens for biological males who yearn to wearn a dress. That being said yes I agree that the author's understanding is likely shallow. I don't think she is able to accurately present this as anything other than "well shes a girl so her dream is to wear cute dresses"
