In the novel, he doesn't take his mask off. He tells her "Van" because she does need his name , soooooo it's not technically wrong. It is his name ... ╮(￣▽￣)╭
I'm gonna guess that he didn't actually remove his mask and the image of him at the end saying "Van" is just so we the audience can see his expression.
odds are he prob still has the mask on. i dunno where Van came from though.
