there's a lot of nuance in the korean language that gets lost in the english version, likely because english & its native speakers are usually more "straightforward", so the translation is j devastating... i know some games & other stories where this happens too, but apparently it's to ensure it "hits" the target audience properly. loss of nuance is such a tragedy in translations </3

okay yeah. i had to read these a few times over to understand it's sarcasm (i have autism), but i really think you misunderstood my comment. i was j responding about the linguistics part. i haven't even read this manhwa AT ALL because i know how this author's mls are & i dislike them & won't read through their updates. i j felt like i know what post op's talking about translation-wise that they've seen & i was ONLY speaking specific to that & moreso in a general term for translations, hence my statement that it happens in games/stories

it happens to a lot of mamhwa translations so sometimes even though i can't fully understand korean, I still like to read the raws to get the actual feel of how they usually talk. a simple removal/change in honorifics sometimes really changes everything. there were times when a line feels even more romantic. like when a character calls him "hyung" "nickname-ya" etc. the difference of formal speech to casual speech which suggests closer relationship. there are even times when a character is not as jerk sounding as he turns out to be in english because there are those endearment/way of speech that doesn't have english translation at all.
ps. I'm talking in general not just about jaekyung
I heard somewhere that on the OG (non translated to ENG) version, Jaekyung wasn't as evil as he was in the ENG version. It was just that the translators for the officials really misconstrued everything and translated it really aggressively. Apparently he was more kind and thoughtful (while still kinda being a jerk) but no where near as awful as he comes across in the ENG version. I kinda wish I could read korean just to like, check it myself, but it is much to think about...
