Life isn't like this. In life, everyone has their own stories and development. In this story, the author chose to focus heavily on one, but decided to give the ending to the one they didn't focus on. It's a case of bad writing and not because it's supposed to reflect real life. In the hand of better writers, we would have development on all the characters or at least the important ones. The fact that we know barely anything of Karam says a lot of the failure of the writing.
