I feel her, even if the abuse is the same, folks cope differently. Siblings in the same house would react and grow differently despite suffering the same.
People who dont understand it are the ones who have never experienced this suffering or have come out on the other side as strong people who blame their abuse on themselves for being weak
People do not give enough credit for the slow independence that the fl gains and forges through hard work. As she is first consistently beaten and abused by her father, and then immediately married an overprotective often controlling man, she doesn’t know anything else. To her, Riftan is salvation so she worships him. For women, there was not anything else unless your family let you do so, and that was rare. As she finds her own purpose for being a mage and takes initiative you can see her becoming her own person and gaining her own opinions on a multitude of things. She’s not your classic submissive fl. She’s a victim of her environment, yet she finds courage to endure and help those around her. Now, you can see her gaining ideas from the princess about standing up for herself and not being controlled. She’s slowly but surely realizing that there is more to life than Riftan.
