They told him he was kicked out at an inn, not in the forest. Though I understand the confusion since the setup seems a lot like a standard revenge plot if you only look at his side lol. She recommended a good spot for gathering herbs so he could make money to live off of after he was kicked out of the party, but a dragon attacked him there. She genuinely didn't know a dragon would show up where she sent him and thought it was a relatively safe location. Shield dude seems to have impure motives, though seemingly only to the extent of making our MC think him and the childhood friend are a couple to prevent MC from reconciling with his childhood friend.
Man this kinda sucks in a way. He's too edgy to actually understand anything. And she's too naive to understand either. Both of them need to just reconcile, the whole thing is a contrivance, "she didn't make an effort"
