I think that, in some way, Apollo already knew what was going to happen because he is the god of prophecy. That knowledge haunted him, and even though he came to love Daphne (in some ways like sana nga, maybe through dreams or moments that reminded him of what was going to happen), he didn’t want to go against fate. Lifting the curse wouldn’t change what was destined, so he accepted it and let Daphne fall in love with him, doing that push-and-pull thingy with her. And, you know, in this version they can’t even remember what happened that night. So yeah… that’s just my theory, and it’s kind of the same as in the myth. I was hoping Daphne would become a tree like in the myth, but oh well just a hopeful wish of mine.
