angst doesnt make a story good though. theres no mest to this story, its just bulldozing us into its narrative with no foundation. these characters dont feel real because we're barreling through scene after scene with no proper introduction to the characters personalities or the world around them, just dramatic scene after dramatic scene. its visually beautiful but theres no substance to it - which would be fine 9 chapters in IF the story wasnt progressing so quickly, if the plot was progressing more slowly while we also slowly got to know them. but its just dramatic scene and over top visuals again and again with nothing of substance to it. they just feel like pretty drawings, not real characters.
i kind of disagree with you, i don’t really see the story presenting anything as life-altering? we’re really deep in the mc’s headspace so everything just feels like a deep, quiet monologue of mc taking this new surroundings and new people in and connecting them into his life. he’s clearly never met anyone who feels as “grand” as ml and is quite fascinated by him but i think the general tone of the story is that it’s quite movie-like where there are cuts between each scene/dialogue which i personally find really cool and vibey. i also don’t think the story is moving crazy fast? not much has really happened at all - he’s just joined a new job and is going about his life really. there’s been no intense character development or plot progression yet. it kind of feels like we’re reading different stories from the way you describe it interestingly
thats the crazy part is nothing IS happening, but what we're seeing is being presented as big and dramatic interactions every single time. every chapter, every new location for a scene change, its all shown as some major interaction or scene even if theyre just standing in a room doing nothing new. the lack of depth between each scene like that makes it feel disjointed and haphazardly thrown together, we're just going "aaaaand cut! next scene!" every single time. they dont feel like characters, it just feels like watching a bunch of pretty people dressing up a new set every few panels. its okay to not know your characters at all 9 chapters in , when the story pacing matches that, but this story just keeps jumping scene to scene like a snapshot, on to the next, no time for a lull where we can breathe and understand them better because they have to hurry up and go do the next "big" thing that will look super pretty but feel very superficial. i think the problem is the story is TRYING to set an ethereal, artsy, statement piece vibe but it feels shallow because its focusing too much on that and not enough on who these characters are and what makes their interactions interesting.
hmmm i see where you’re coming from kind of? like in chapter 9 when the ml suddenly apologises to the mc but we don’t really see the development of how that happened. i personally don’t think the story is trying too hard with the “artsy” kind of indie film vibe, i think it’s more so that we’re so stuck in mc’s perspective now and since he’s still new to his environment, he barely knows anyone and we don’t get to see more of the other characters through his eyes. since we’re vicariously living through him we don’t get scenes inside other characters head to make the scenes flow better. and judging from the comments, it looks like the novel was probably able to go more in depth with the mc’s thoughts and narration compared to the manhwa because it allows more dialogue, so that being directly transferred into a visual format probably didn’t go so well and hence is losing a lot of depth and emotion that would’ve otherwise existed (in scenes like the photography one). i don’t think it’s too bad though personally, i typically like being stuck in the head of one character and i feel like the way it jumps between different scenes kind of conveys how confused mc must feel in a new environment with new people too. like for a sheltered boy entering the workplace for the first time and leaving the best of his siblings, it would make sense that meeting these super rich high end people and attending events like these must feel like a big deal, and although not life altering, certainly overwhelming and important. and i wouldn’t call mc a pretty blank slate either, he has a pretty blank expression but has a lot of thoughts and emotions regarding everything around him, and is very passionate about art as well. but i can see why you interpret it the way you do :))

im just not vibing with this. it feels rushed and scattered, like a bunch of oddly pieced together scenes strung out too far apart on a loose thread. we just jump from one big dramatic action to another with little to nothing in between, but its all presented as the most climatic set of interactions people could possibly be experiencing and its just... not? like the mc is acting like his whole life is being changed and hes never experienced anything like it before but literally nothing is happening, its just a bunch of oddly pretty people saying and doing the most basic shit. like NOTHING interesting has happened but the story is trying to convince us that every scene is life altering. the ml is intensely dislikable, the shushu thing is actually so off putting & the mc is just a pretty, blank canvas with no personality so hes just not relatable in the slightest. literally NO ONE has DONE anything so far but the story is definitely trying to convince us things are "happening," and the two main characters have less personality than literally anyone else on page so far.
