I feel like you guys probably REALLY don't understand why this would be seen as so bad. From what I've seen and been told by people from Japan, reputation can play a massive role in so much, down to perception of dress. To a degree people will genuinely avoid you if they think you are too eccentric.
Unfortunately, I think some of the gravity is lost on a western audience because we are much kinder when it comes to public image. Japan is still very conservative.
I definitely agree with everyone. I'm glad it wasn't SA or something heinous. But seriously the incident wasn't even that bad. After all this foreshadowing and mystery surrounding the incident, the reality really fell short. Yes a student got injured by Chidori students, but it was also a Chidori student that helped the girl from escalating the situation. She might've gotten a scar, but in the end how is that any of the school or teacher's responsibility? Did the teacher know she was meeting someone from Chidori? Yes, but it seemed obvious that she trusted the student to have good judgement with who she hangs out with.
If there isn't anything else after this initial incident that drove the schools further apart, then this all seems like a gross overreaction from everyone.
