If she wanted to make them sleep a few more times, she could have just done extra chapters to the previous story and not a "sequel"

When you need a third wheel to move your bicycle is because the two main tires are not working.
You can clearly see that the author either didn't want to do a 2nd part and was pressured, or she didn't give it enough thought. She doesn't know what to do with the characters, that's why she's so focused in the other dude.
Bad plot tbh.
