It's fucking weird it's happening at all. If you're an adult, meet a child, where you protected (and yes he partially raised him during that time) for months/years. Then 15 years pass and they are also and adult and your an adult, and you (it in the case the story) want to try to make that a relationship.... That's fucking weird and wrong. I would still see that person as a child. Also the age gap is insane.
