I honestly think it's worth it. Romance is the side-plot so obv the manga won't priotrize it, and it's been made clear who the love-interest is (I mean a lot of the fans knew from the start) and whenever there is a misunderstanding between the two, it gets cleared up pretty quickly. This is my own personal bias, but I really enjoyed the slow burn (plot and romance) because it was done so well, and we could actually see growth in the main characters beside Yona too, and a lot of the character are so fleshed out, and they each have their own motivation too.
The slow burn is really well written along with the overall story and characters of course, and since it's pretty much finished (apart from the extra coming out in february) you can binge read without having to worry about the cliffhangers
Tbf it's not frustrating, they started as friends and that escalated in a natural. The plot is really good even tho the end was hard to follow with the long wait between chapters. Overall a must read (or must see with s1 and s2 that was announced)
