I put off reading this a while ago, and now that I have, it really isn’t anything special. I did think that overall the setting was interesting and the characters had a good characterization. I also liked how many side characters there were and how fleshed out they felt despite being on screen for limited amounts of time. That’s about the only parts I really liked though. The main characters are a mess and I truly cannot understand any reason to try and write a story about them together? It was far more interesting to think about how maybe sleeping with Masumi could open Mame’s mind to men, and how that would make Masumi question if he really was okay with not dating. It felt like the story was going to go in that direction, but it was used for a gag instead. I don’t get Masumi’s motivations or convictions. If he’s into purely sexual relationships, why show him acting jealous over Mame? Why have him kiss Mame? What was the point? It’s 6 whole chapters of pure mess. There is no resolution, there is no change of heart or compromise between the characters. It just felt like a waste of time. At the very least, the art is really good so it was nice to look at. But now I feel cautious about looking at anything else by this artist because I don’t know if they’re as good at writing as they are at drawing.
