I think is said that usually since the women are higher rank and she’s also the head of a household the men raise the kids. Also the female demons usually go live with the king and not their parents but Mel decided to stay with her dad. The step mom doesn’t live with them

This is such a nice heartfelt story! Although I wanted her to interact with her stepmother, is there any explanation for that? Other than she’s a proud high ranking demon?
