His best option at the time in my view would have been a contract marriage with someone before the heat got too hot with a secret wedding. Especially since he didn't care for the criticsm because he had enough power and influence especially since his brother was throwing him under the bus
Also Elysees didn't have enough power or money to start killing people yet at the time. But knowing her should would have used the princess to make the contract wife a outcast.
