I think it all comes down to show vs novel and the show will never be better than the novel. Also, yeah what you said where a lot of people don't consume yaoi content or bls and that's mostly because people don't read even if it were manhwa or manag based. I think because it was based during a time where homosexuals weren't truly out in the open, its pacing gave them a situationship that spanned so many years. But I don't think it's bad. It's alright for what it is

Does anyone feel like it wasnt that good? so my friends and everyone was SO recommending me to watch heated rivalry, and they were like girl you'll LOVE it. (mainly cuz they know ive been reading and loving yaoi/bl for 5 years now.) but after watching i was like... its ok? I think i had fun but i didnt think it was as life changing as everyones making it out to be. its pretty fun i would say but... i don't feel that strongly about it. i think i can compare it to how the first time i discovered bl i thought some of the trashiest stories were SO good because i was a baby bl enjoyer. like i thought "a guy like you' and 'love is an illusion' was so good and peak LMAOO but that was like in middle school. seeing everyone react to heated rivalry is like that imo. its good, but idk i need more YEARNING, and them just fucking every episode is chill but like you cant really capture a 9 year situationship in 6 episodes very well. i feel like its getting so much hype because these types of people have never consumed any gay media for the first time and theyre fangirling over it. but overall i think it was just alright. i really love hudson williams as a personality though, i love his interviews lol. for reference, some of my fav yaois are checkmate, payback, at the end of the road, under the green light, nerd project which i feel like capture yearning so well, so i didnt think heated rivalry really captured that. still solid watch maybe 6.5-7/10??
