I actually have opposite feelings about what the ending means from the TL group. I think Arika is alive and well.
Personally, with the bit that we saw about the mountain group, I think that's to show Arika hiding out in the temple after what she believes is everyone is lying or out to get her. She probably just wanted to live while not having to worry about the outside world considering the issue with her mom still on drugs, and the girl group collectively being harmful to her.
Like another person said, she and Nana are originally from an island so there is a good probability that she was a strong swimmer.
I think the moment when the vegetable man comes to do the delivery and he shows her the album with Nana on it, she realizes that there is still someone out there that believes in her and loves her.
So the last bit is her taking a chance to see her best friend since it is Obon which would be the best time to catch her coming home to her hometown.
At least I like to think this is the ending to give more of a happier note. But it is still open for interpretation.
