Well his whole family is fucked up starting from his grandfather. Everyone in his family, him, his father, his older brother Nathaniel, etc who ended up with the gene are complete or at least some part loony. His spinoff is actually good in as in Dane helps him recognise and feel things
It's not a spin off, it's actually the first story the author came up with, she just release it 10 years later.
Idgaf what stage of his life he starts to learn how to feel things or with whom honestly. This author doesn't really do anything interesting with the edgy bullshit and I'm not one to be sympathetic towards pieces of shit with no redeemability or their half-assed love stories. Some people don't deserve redemption, it'd be a more interesting story if the author just doubled down on how bad they are as people instead of trying to make them seem sympathetic.
