It was so confusing bcoz leaving Shinpei in shadow (not knowing Satoko was/is alive) for so many years is so cruel and bad. I felt bad for him bcoz he should've been the first person to know that Satoko was treated.
For me, this ending happened in afterlife which makes more sense tbh.
