Correct me if I’m wrong but!! What if ml secretly killed old duke, so she wouldn’t be his wife but still kinda be safe in that house? Maybe that was the deal he had with emperor, since if I remember correct then daughter in law is emperor half sister?
The emperor and duchess (his half sister) were on opposing political sides. So she’s not exactly safe in that house.
Emperor is looking for any excuse to get rid of them, or at the very least tarnish/ruin them.

I read somewhere that the history between ML and FL is very very long.
ML and FL were together in academy and were lovers. The 2 promised to marry once ML return from battlefield(the one where some characters first met ML) ML return victorious only to find FL barely holding the last bit of sanity she has because of a series of unfortunate events. Im not sure if the unfortunate events stem from ML helping the current King in his position. FL was deeply mourning the loss of her father and ML cant take watching her suffer anymore so he eraesed her memory. Ml made it his mission to make sure FL never experienced that kind of suffering anymore. So he becomes her stalker. After a few months thats where ep 1 of manhwa starts.
