If you look closely, Haebum didn’t melt and tell Ryujin he’s perfect until he saw the cigarette scar he left on Ryujin’s temple. Guys like these don’t love the person, they love what they can do to them or the way they can change and manipulate them. You hear it again when he says that Ryujin’s going to eat the “Dragon” with him. In the book you can hear more of their internal monologue with makes it easier to spell those things out, so from an artist’s standpoint the subtly of that is exceptionally done. Doesn’t make Haebum less of a monster though
