anyway here's my mangaa! i'd give a better one but unfortunately i can't rn cause all my lists got wiped. takopi no genzai is a pretty short one compared to the others i had in mind, but it really opened my mind on a lot of things. good luck on ur essay!!!

My favorite go to is Mushishi. It's about an "exorcist" but for supernatural "bugs" (they look more like bright abstract shapes). He goes around with his toolkit and finds new patients or incidents where the bugs create some issues for people.
His journey is both a discovery of the bugs as well as the humans they infect. In some stories the pain humans inflict on each other is worse than the non-sentient bugs. I highly recommend it even for a casual read if it doesn't make the assignment.
