Seems like after 29YO MC made a wish and walked into the ocean, a higher power/ God heard his plea and decided to grant it, by reversing back to his 19YO self and meet new people, including ML. Unclear if the people already existed or they are new.

But seems like the world is unstable, and the changes MC made are not permanent, hence the “storybook” setting. So the bigger the change, the more unstable the world becomes (like when he saved his grandma). Maybe the power that stabilises the world is “impression”, how much impact MC made on the world/ people. Which is why ‘God’ needed MC to eg make impressions on 200k people to ‘edit’ the world. At the end, MC made too many big changes without having enough “impressions” (400k), which causes the world to fracture and erase MC.

But another way to make “impressions” can be through “favourability”, how much impact MC had on one person. In the new life, MC had good favourability with many people like his teacher. And at the end, ML wrote that in his perspective, MC became so important to him that MC is the protagonist, and vice versa (ML is extremely important to MC). And since both of them wished for the same thing (to be together), when they met they had enough “favourability” to stabilise the world and stop MC’s erasure.

Anyways this is my headcanon to help the story make sense. It’s a shame the ending feels so rushed, the characters were all really cute.
