What the heck is the prince talking about at the end of the chapter? does he mean the three men are nice to her because she looks like the former queen?? but what does that have to do with Jeremy being pure and bright? what does knowing that mean???

forgive my brain i just can't connect it all (-‿-")

Yes, he means that Jeremy is able to keep a "pure" and "bright" life because he doesn't know the reason why his father even took Shuri specifically as his wife(because she looks like the former queen). It's like telling someone that they are a kid and are only able to keep their innocence for the sole reason that they haven't experience the harsh reality of the world. To keep it simple:

Theobald: "Jeremy you are able to act as good because you don't know the bad things someone has done to keep you safe"

The POS prince just thinks everyone is as disgusting & despicable as himself.

Knowing about shuri's resemblance to a woman who drove the three most powerful men in the empire crazy shouldn't change the picture as much, at least I don't think Jeremy would change. It's just the late Marquis' way to ensure his children would have the favor of emperor and duke (thanks to shuri's face) when he's gone, in addition to fulfilling his own fantasy ofc. If anything, it makes shuri's predicament even more sad & empathizable.

What's really gross is the prince knowingly objectifying & getting so obsessed with a woman resembling his own mother without ever actually respecting her own will.
