Those are 5% of the fandom, majorities are just enjoying it in silence in general, but not the minorities
JK is problematic, but he is not so bad that we can't expect him to grow into a better human being, which is why he's so criticized! Because the story is set in such a way, we know we are in for some character growth. The problem is, none of us know how much he'll change and the story keeps teasing us by making it seem like he's already gone through his development multiple times. I think it can be upsetting because usually in this kind of story we see a very simple trend of: character understands he's wrong -> character fixes his mistakes. The end. But in this case it keeps repeating over and over, one crumb at a time. And every time we think it's the last time and we know there could be more so it upsets us.
He's probably going to change big time by the end of this story, but it's hard to wait for it. You can even see people are getting tired of Dan because he's not developing as a character (even if that's pretty realistic too).
If his character was narrated as irredeemable from the start, you wouldn't se this much annoyance around. Like, in champagne and roses Caesar is problematic and we KNOW we can't expect him to turn into the perfect green flag, like, ever. We can be as shocked and angered as we want by his actions, but we can't be upset at his character for not being nice, given the setup. JK can be better, he just needs to learn... And it's hard to patiently wait for it
