Don't go by ratings always. I read comments, the description, genre and cover page to determine if the plot is a good read. (▰˘◡˘▰)
I find that for manga, it can be good as long as it's 8.7 or over, whereas for a webtoon / vertical format it's rarely ever good if under a 9.3 - and yes often the summary, comments and most importantly first chapter will help me build expectations
