Why is the upper class always portrayed as deliberately evil? Though I’m not privvy it seems like they are more motivated by interests and any evil is due to indifference, ignorance and selfishness than a deliberate desire to smear or look down on people based on class or mannerisms. That just seems like a nouve riche’s way of thinking. Idk maybe upper class people do discriminate based on classiness. And maybe apocalypse and powers changed things and it happens to be the development in this universe. And if they werent explicitly mean then the mc dont have a reason to defeat them lol. Than if it was grey

The upper class is always viewed as evil from the lack of care in their regard towards lower class within society. It’s a circumstance that has existed for decades in a lot of different countries. Studies have shown that those with wealth lean towards selfish and non empathetic behavior. Like we’re currently in a modern age and poor people still face discrimination cause of class.

I know there are many caricatures out there, just read news and you can see them doing shitty stuff. Selfish people tend to become wealthy because they hoard capital in the first place. But still think it’s dramatized in this case, or rather only dumbos act this way than be more implicitly evil

I think I’m trying to say rich people know how to act civil or cultured, they got this far because of it and not all of them are bad even if ignorant. It sounds like I’m defending them but I’m just pressing for nuance. Maybe I’m being too nitpicky

I’d argue half of poor people would act the same way if they were empowered by money. But i get what you’re saying about poor people are often better understanding others plight and conversely is more charitable even if not always

Humans as a whole are born egotistical and selfish, you’re taught to not act in that manner. Yes there are rich people who do not act right and there are those who do. Same applies to a poor person that is suddenly given wealth. It’s all a matter of each persons morals/values and whether they fall within a category that is more than just ego. Idk if you’re aware but most people in power are those of wealth and a grand majority of the time they aim to create laws and ordinances to maintain the rich being rich while the poor become poorer. Amazing example, the United States currently has a president who raised taxes on the poor and lowered them for the rich. Which just goes to show how easily someone in a higher class can abuse their power. So yes, can stories be a bit dramatic with making the rich seem excruciatingly evil? Yeah, sometimes they over do it but to be fair, we live in a world where I wouldn’t be surprised if the way people act in stories were occurring in real life. The inspiration had to have come from somewhere and it’s a sad reality to live in a world with people who have inspired such selfishness and destructive behavior.

I don’t think we disagree on how reality is, but the portrayal and side character/villain motivations
