character development is a thing, and thats why complex characters are popular, and how nuances are widely used in stories, but apparently noone is able to stomach character development anymore

I haven't even read this yet but dude your comment is ridiculous lmao
I seen something about black mail, yes someone can "learn" from that mistake but that doesn't mean anyone has to tolerate them still - even if it's not real. No one HAS to like anything, even if they change in the story.

Yeah except character development requires someone to actually understand the gravity of their actions and how they affect other people and choose to change. It’s absurd to say people can’t “stomach character development anymore” when the issue isn’t that he starts off unlikeable, it’s that the writing of the story prioritizes romance above complex character writing. His character is frustrating not because he’s a bad person (I love a despicable main character!) but because the rules of his universe allow it to go completely unpunished. If anything, the plot both rewards his behavior (he gets to date Usaka) and completely minimizes its impact (Usaka experiences no trauma or stress from Miyoshi’s SA, Usaka doesn’t blame Miyoshi, no legal action is taken, more violent assaulters are introduced to make Miyoshi’s actions seem comparatively better). Sure he apologizes once, but why even apologize if everything about his world is saying it’s totally fine to be how he is? Miyoshi literally can’t develop as a character because anything bad he does the story minimizes or justifies in hopes of making him appear an attractive ml who’s deserving of Usaka’s love

everyones making miyoshi out to be a WAY worse character than he is, hes not GOOD but hes not a horrifying character either?? most current readers agree that hes developed somewhat even if its not by a big leap, but to see people put their foot down at a character like miyoshi literally feels unfair, plus they stopped reading at chapter 7

its them dropping it at chapter 7 right before miyoshi even had any development that made me comment as such, because there was NO chance they would even know anything but the dickhead miyoshi was before he realized he was a dickhead

I do agree that he’s not a horrifying character (at least not by yaoi standards). As I said in my initial response, I strongly disagreed your comment implying that dropping the manga because of miyoshi meant not being able to stomach complex characters or character development. Especially because my whole issue with him is him not being written to be complex enough. The narrative will never let him face consequences or recognize the gravity of his awful behavior. Sure, he’s grown a little bit, but we will never see him recognize and acknowledge what he did as sexual assault and illegal. He can’t fully develop as a layered character, so the plot just bends to strip him of responsibility
