its not explicitly explained but I dont think she pushed abi overboard. im pretty sure Gideon hired someone who used a disguise that had red hair, something about him "paying so much for that disguise." that being said, the plot got pretty lost during the mermaid era and im so glad its over lol
It’s heavily implied that Gideon, creepy pos musician, hired someone who disguised themselves w red hair to infiltrate the ship and use it as an opportunity to push the FL overboard to kill her. If it hadn’t been for Nadia (who doesn’t completely hate humans and fell in love w FL at first sight), they would’ve drowned to death. It’s purely coincidental that the mermaid had that same red hair; or maybe intentional since we still don’t know Gideon perspective for planning all of this.
Rereading this, and if Nadia was a man should be in prison. Like imagine, a man pushes a woman overboard because he thinks she’s pretty and wants her, ‘saves her’ and then takes advantage of her kindness and the curse to assault her with a kiss and then tell her over and over again to leave her husband and be with me and pressure and manipulate her emotion until she feels bad enough to think that I am the victim, bruh bum behavior also I completely understand cultural differences, but she’s giving Jake Paul going to Japan in the way that she absolutely refuses to even try the basic customs of another country she is a guest in because she just doesn’t want to and it’s beneath her
