My usual rec watch order is donghua-novel-audio drama-manhua. I highly recommend reading the novel first tho if u want to read the manhua after coz some details will be lost on you.

You should definetelly read the novel but if you want to skip 1st book(manhua is up to 2nd book) you can read this and then start with book 2

I'd definitely recommend to either read the novel first, or to watch the 2 seasons of the donghua first, otherwise the manhua is kinda confusing with the tons of side characters one can't keep apart Also note, the only way to finish the story is by reading the novel (8 books in English). The manhua got cancelled, and the wait for S3 of the donghua has gotten very long too, so who knows if/when it's ever coming back. It doesn't help that China is cracking down more and more on LGBTQAI+ content...
Personally I love the novels. I think the donghua doesn't do it justice and is actually pretty boring..

where to find the audio drama in english ?
sadly there's no official translations so we only have fan translations. You can see them on youtube mostly, just search audio drama tgcf w/ eng sub and there should be a playlist!
