Most likely this pseudo-ending was rushed when it was decided the series would not run its intended length.

Wait!!! I demand an explanation for that unsatisfactory ending. We don't even know if she liked the rich kid. And the mother left the step father? Does he forever stay and wait for her without moving on? Did he have any feelings for the main character?!?! I am upset.
