17 and 20 is okay, but anything above twenty it starts to get weird. I would be okay if he was 20 but it's just early twenties usually implies 22-25 which is like... Not a good age gap
mc IS 20, it was even stated in one of the chapters and so far the only character that explicitly have been said that aged up is hatano

This is just my analysis, remember when hatano says the last time they meet 8 years ago, if hatano rn 17 thats means back then he's 9-10. Some jp fans implied mc meet hatano when he's still middle school because back then he's still doesn't know about bl stuff (read chapter 1 when mc realize he's living in bl world when he's already in high school) so they age gap probably 3-4 years. I say 3-4 years because in chapter 72 the story about hatano birthday so that makes implied hatano already 18 years old. but is just wild theory (also sorry about bad english)╮(￣▽￣)╭
