Honestly it was ok for me. She did say that she wasn’t going to give up writing so I think she was gonna publish her books at another company. I’m guessing that this book was set in the 1980s so women didn’t have much rights to begin with. Maybe that’s why william was able to walk away freely? That’s just a guess though. As for her friends, I think she would get closer to Anna’s housemates since they already know her really well. It just sucks that they didn’t show it.
The ending with her writing was unclear, I know she said she would continue to write but the author never followed up with what happened with that. And yes I too am pissed that the critic got away freely, and even if she went to a different publishing company I have a feeling he would still follow her so that was another thing the author did not clear up. And we didn't even get to see the finished sculptor, the whole series was Anna working on this sculptor and we never get to see it finished.
I swear, the more i think about this, the more annoyed I get. So in the end she gave up on writing? The critic went completely without any consequences, the dad got what he wanted and his daughter will now live as a "pretty face" and thats it? She never got to publish her work, to take pride in her writing, even though we are clearly shown and told she is good and her book was hella popular until they found it was a woman behind it.
Yes, she gets to be with our wee sculpture student, but she still has no friends, only just started getting on with her auntie and has 0 support network or anything to really do, since the author showed us how her ENTIRE damn life is writing. We even got the scene with the sculptor telling her how she shouldn't stop writing because it's clear she loves it, that she is looking forward to her book because it was interesting.
Honestly, what absolute dogshit ending, 0 resolution, no growth, no satisfactory conclusion, just pure bs. Shame for the good art.
