I think you’re misunderstanding when she says help me to the baby. She’s asking it to keep calm, to not eat up *her* power. We’ve been informed multiple times that not only has her brother siphoned from her, but this baby as well (especially so if it senses duress), which is why Lesset wanted to kill it. Because we’ve seen that her power is also tied to her life force overall, as she said she’s the equivalent of a magic battery. She had to make that deal with the dragon just to have a way to use her own power, but it is all her own, that has never changed.
Poor Elise has essentially been leeched her entire life and has had to work with these disadvantages the entire time. But she loves cherry and chose to put herself through all these risks because cherry was her reason to live and she wasn’t going to let anyone take them away from her. That right there is the strongest thing anyone could do, and her simply asking the baby in those tense moments is a reminder of just how much burden she bares just to keep her baby safe.
Thank you for the clarification. However, it only slightly changes my perspective. Babies and fetuses by their very nature are meant to feed off their mother's whether it be food/nutrition, blood, etc.
This is especially the case as this is a dragon baby right? It does so 10x. My memory sucks, but at a certain point didn't she not even need to get pregnant? I think my hang up is again my bias of, you can't move me that you care about your child and then do risky things or bring them in risky situations.
I do understand her circumstances are very difficult for the most part, and I may still have an incorrect understanding, it just wasnt my favorite choice of the author's.
I guess I was triggered lol.
If I rated this a 10, this choice would knock it down to a 9 is all.
Np! I can see where it gets confusing because of one of the scenes with Genovia. From what we know she had to already be with baby and the reason she had such extreme anxiety was due to the fact that she wasn’t showing (and lesset kept pushing it off, actually putting her in danger doing so) putting her at huge risk when she needed to live. Especially when genovia threatened her about it and mentioned others would be able to see through the fib told. Because of how much time passed at that point she thought she was going to get killed, so her best option was to escape as that was her final option whether or not she was able to hold up her side of the deal. She doesn’t find out she’s pregnant till after the escape. But we know from during the time she tried to uphold her end that she went from thinking this would be their child if she got pregnant, to genovia wanting to steal it, to lesset admitting he would not love it, to then the emperor and lesset making that deal. This is all while she doesn’t know she is pregnant, as she ran away after the first results came back negative. The doctor still mentioned she’d run a secondary test, but elise said i gotta go cause my life depends on it. And honestly, she saw the world for what it was. Once she realized she was with child, she knew that child held less risk with her than being sold off or killed. Of course she’s not in an ideal situation, but she was the only person who loved it. She was a mother willing to risk it all for her child (and people), because if she got caught we know it wasn’t going to end well.
But i def agree there are parts that should have been written better. And character moments that had me wanting to shake them through the screen (mostly lesset). Among repeated stereotypes of barbarians that make me shake my head. So i def wouldn’t rate it a 10 either; but i think elise herself is written in a refreshing way we don’t see often enough.
Sorry for the tangent lol. But 11 out of 10 agree with u not a 10/10 story, but 100% wanted to clarify that timeline for her. Lol

This story is good but sometimes it goes over the line into the bucket of stories where the fl has to be weak and strong at the same time so the author has to jump thru hoops. But So far I felt that this story is good and feel it found good ways to do that.
But with her being pregnant, everytime I turn around she's like baby help me and I'm like damn....Like wdym help you? Baby isnt even two months and she was in her dangerous period using up its power? I know the circumstances played a role but dang.
It's not that serious, just after reading so many stories about mom characters having kids they have NO business having and being cool with the kid becoming their protectors I'm jaded.
Also, again, I think I reeeeeaaallly like a lot of plot choices the author made in this series that this one stood out like a sore thumb to me
But it happened like 5 times, and I was like ok, this is plot armor now.
I want to say one last time, I still really like this story, its good, and even though I wrote out this post, it's such a minor nitpick. It's just one of MY special pet peeves.
